Book 2 Release Party at Darby Winery

We just wanted to thank everyone for coming out to the EAT & DRINK Book 2 release party this weekend at Darby Winery. Putting together a new book every 3 months is no small task and we really appreciate the support. Book 2 should start appearing in local wineries, wine retailers, and book stores over the next couple of weeks. We'll definitely let you know as new locations are added to our list of retailers. Or, if you have any suggested retail outlets let us know via email or just comment to this post. Thanks again!

EAT & DRINK Book 2 - Soon to Release!

EAT & DRINK in the Northwest is not just about the end result, the meal, or the bottle of wine, it’s about the life-enhancing experience that food and wine provide. Our focus is not on the final destination but rather the journey, including who you meet and what you learn along the way.
Soon to be released is the second edition in our collection of seasonal books, offering 20 recipes and now more than 50 wines. As with book 1, our objective remains the same – encouraging you to experience the Northwest through food and wine. Each unique recipe was created specifically for this book and includes detailed instructions and cook’s tips. The wines were chosen for their ability to complement the flavors in each dish, but we’ve also included general suggestions as a way to encourage experimentation.
Book 2 will be available starting Saturday, June 28th for our release party to be held at Woodinville's Darby Winery, and then after through select Northwest... ...

Another gorgeous Pinot from Carlton Cellars - a new discovery for us thanks to our friends at Helsinqi.com. Great color with fresh cherry pie aromas and just a subtle hint of oak. Not as earthy as the Roads End but it still retains that bright acidity and soft tannin structure. Spicy wood and cedarbox complement the red cherry flavors. A great option for savory game and pork dishes, especially when served with a vegetable or mushroom sauce/side.

A beautiful Oregon Pinot with deep earthy, black cherry and spicy wood aromas and flavors. The bright acidity makes this a lively option to pair with fatty, or heartier, dishes. But the smooth silky tannins definitely make it an enjoyment to drink on its own. I recommend savory salmon or a rich barbeque pork.

Thank you from EAT & DRINK and the Red Cross

We would like to thank all of the wineries that donated wine (as featured in the most recent EAT & DRINK book) to the recent Red Cross fundraser, which we were fortunate to be part of. Thank you to...

Brian Carter Cellars, for the Byzance & Tuttorosso.
Chateau Ste. Michelle, for the Indian Wells Cab & Riesling and autographed magnum.
Darby Winery, for the Le Deuce white.
DesVoigne Cellars, for the Montreaux & San Remo.

Your overwhelming generosity really help make the event a success!

Rich in texture but light on the palate with crisp acidity for a clean refreshing finish. Full ripe flavors of lemon, green apple, apricot, and pineapple make for a delicious summer sipper, while the balance of this low alcohol wine make it very food friendly.

A HOT Time in the Willamette Valley!

If I were to use only one word to sum up our trip to Oregon’s Willamette Valley last weekend it would be “HOT!” It’s been such a cold wet spring this year in the Northwest, so of course we would pick one of the hottest weekends to drive around wine country. On Friday it was a consistent 100 degrees all day and at one point I think it even got up near 110. Did I mention that it was “HOT!”
Anyway, I guess my purpose wasn’t to give you a weather report but instead to let you know how things went with our visit to the Willamette Valley. Things went well. We drank some good wine, met some nice people, and had a great wine country experience. Some of the wineries we visited included…

The Eyrie Vineyards, a must visit in McMinnville for fantastic wine.
Raptor Ridge (by appointment), where Andrea took good care of us.
Chehalem (by appointment), offering numerous tastings and a friendly place to escape the heat.

It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it!

On the way down to Willamette Valley for some Oregon Wine Country research...Yeah that's right, I said "research." Also known as eating and drinking. Hey, what can I tell you? Putting out a new food and wine pairing book every three months takes a lot of "research".

We've got the new Summer release of EAT & DRINK coming out toward the end of June. So, of course we had to hit the road for some of Oregon's finest wines to pair with Melissa's exceptional recipes, which will include various grilled meats and vegetable dishes, along with plenty of fresh fruit, salads, and veggie items.

We'll keep you posted...

How do the Wine Scores equate to each other?

Different people like to rate wines in different ways, and we aim to please. So we give you 2 options.

You can rate wine on a scale of 0-5 Glasses, or for finer detail, you can rate wine on a 100 point scale.

We do the conversion for you so all Wine Ratings display both values. The table below shows you the conversion:
